How We Build a Long-Lasting Shingle Roof

Tear-Off Down to Bare Deck
We strip old shingles, nails, and failing felt paper down to bare wood so nothing remains hidden.
Deck Inspection & Renailing
Damaged CDX plywood is cut out and replaced. Decking is re-fastened to code with 8d ring-shank nails every 6 inches.
Peel & Stick Water Barrier
Self-adhered secondary water barrier covers the entire deck, sealing around every nail and valley.
6-Nail High-Wind Pattern
Shingles installed with 6 nails per strip across the reinforced nailing zone, qualifying for 130 MPH wind warranties.
Shingle Roofing FAQs
What is Florida's Peel-and-Stick Secondary Water Barrier rule? +
Under Florida Building Code (7th and 8th Edition, Section 1507.1.1), all reroofs require an approved secondary water barrier. We install high-temperature, self-adhering modified bitumen underlayment directly across the entire wooden deck. If hurricane winds ever tear a shingle away, this waterproof barrier seals around nail penetrations, completely preventing water from entering your ceilings.
Do you replace rotted wood decking when tearing off old shingles? +
Yes, always. We never nail new shingles over decayed or spongy wood. When we strip off old shingles down to bare plywood or tongue-and-groove planks, our crew marks and cuts out any rotten decking, replaces it with fresh CDX plywood, and re-nails surrounding sheets to current hurricane nail spacing.
How do you protect against dark algae stains near the St. Johns River? +
North Florida’s warm, humid air fosters Gloeocapsa magma (blue-green algae), which creates unsightly black streaks. We install premium architectural shingles infused with copper-containing granules (such as Scotchgard™ or StreakGuard™) that release microscopic algae-fighting ions during rain.
How long does a residential shingle roof replacement take? +
Most residential shingle replacements in Palatka, Interlachen, and Putnam County are finished in 1 to 2 days. We protect your landscaping with tarps and run industrial rolling magnetic sweeps multiple times to collect stray nails.
